Ammunition Costs

One of the largest ongoing expenses is ammunition. Ukraine fires an estimated 6,000-8,000 artillery shells per day. At $2,000-$8,000 per 155mm shell, ammunition costs alone run $12-64 million daily. The conflict has strained global ammunition production capacity and driven up prices.

Air Defense Priority

Air defense has become the most critical and expensive category of military aid. Patriot interceptor missiles cost $4-6 million each, and Ukraine uses multiple missiles per engagement against Russian drones and missiles. The total air defense aid package exceeds $10 billion.

Equipment Losses and Replacement

Both sides have suffered significant equipment losses. Open-source intelligence estimates suggest Ukraine has lost thousands of vehicles and weapons systems, requiring continuous resupply from Western allies. The cost of replacing donated equipment from allied stockpiles adds billions more to total spending.
